My Name is Not Asylum Seeker
My Name is Not Asylum Seeker
17 June – 16 September
Art Gallery | Danum Gallery, Library and Museum
This thought-provoking exhibition aims to shed light on the everyday lives and experiences of individuals who have sought asylum in the UK.
It showcases materials developed by a group of six co-researchers with personal asylum experience, alongside staff and member from the St Augustine Centre members in Halifax and the Doncaster Conversation Club.
Collaborating with Prof Mette Louise Berg and Dr Eve Dickson (UCL) during the COVID-19 lockdowns in 2021, the research delves into the realities faced by people seeking asylum in Halifax and Doncaster. Conducted in partnership with St Augustine’s and Doncaster Conversation Club, the exhibition challenges prevailing narratives that dehumanize people seeking sanctuary, portraying them as ‘illegals’ or a ‘burden.’

Thank you to Prof Mette Louise Berg and Dr Eve Dickson (UCL), NordForsk, Grand Challenges, Doncaster Conversation Club, Calderdale Libraries and Calderdale Council for their support in making this exhibition possible.
