Doncaster has been at the heart of railway history for 200 years. From its early days as a key hub on the Great Northern Railway to its world-famous locomotive works, this city has helped shape the future of rail travel.
Join us in celebrating our 200 years rail history by taking part in the Doncaster Railway 200 Poetry Competition.
City of Doncaster council is inviting poets of all ages to summit an original poem written by you on a Railway theme: Are you a poet with a passion for trains and the rich history of railways? Then we want to hear from you.

We are thrilled to announce the winners of our recent Railway 200 Poetry Competition! The entries were evaluated based on originality, imagery, relevance to the theme and emotional impact. The judges were truly impressed by the quality and high standard of all submissions. Here are our winners:

Thank you to our judges and to everyone who participated. Congratulations to our winners! Each winner will receive an invitation to our Doncaster Railway 200 Special launch event, books including a signed copy of, “Flying Scotsman and the Best Birthday Ever” by Michael Morpurgo & Michael Foreman and certificates. The winning poems will be printed on the Railway 200 pamphlet. Well done!
The Doncaster Railway 200 event will be held at Freightliner Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th August.
